Our Tech
CO2, also known as R744, is non-toxic, non-flammable and non-explosive (Safety Group A1). It is more effective in heating than cooling.
CO2 as a refrigerant has high density: this means much smaller tubing, compressors and heat exchangers than conventional refrigerants. This enables micro scale applications such as micro-electronics cooling, and compact large scale applications.
CO2 has a high heat capacity resulting in smaller flow rates making it ideal fluid for thermal energy storage (TES) for both hot and cold applications.
The Global Warming Potential (GWP) of R744 is 1. As we use captured waste gas, our direct Global Warming impact from refrigerant use is negative.
Did You Know?
A smaller residential 5kW air sourced heat pump can contain 2.5 kg of an HFC gas (e.g. R134 with a GWP of 1480). If this escapes, which can commonly occur due to reckless disposal, the Global Warming Impact from the refrigerant leakage alone is equivalent to 3.7 tons of CO2, and >3.5 years of Carbon Savings.
One 100 pound cylinder of car refrigerant (R-404A) leaked into the atmosphere equates to the tailpipe emissions of 28 – 4x4 Chevy Suburban’s traveling 20,000 kilometers each.
